HOLM, Pamela Jean

Pamela J. Holm

Age 59, of Ottawa. Pamela died September 23, 2019, three weeks after learning she had cancer. Born in 1960 in Campbellton, NB, to Rev. Flemming Holm and Sarah June (Eikhoud) Holm (later Maginley), she grew up in Valley, Antigonish and Sydney, Nova Scotia; studied at Mount Allison and Concordia Universities; participated in Canada World Youth; lived in Montreal until moving to British Columbia in 1989 to take Music Therapy at Capilano College. She stayed in British Columbia and helped raise two step-children before returning to Nova Scotia in 2004.

From 2006 on, she lived in Perth then Ottawa, Ont., where she worked hard to establish her professional credentials. She was a Registered Psychotherapist and Music Therapist Accredited in private practice at the time of her death.

She was also an energy and sound healer, playing singing bowls with vocal improvisation; a singer-songwriter, composer and music teacher.

She sang in some of Canada’s top chamber choirs, including Halifax’s Camerata Singers, the Cantata Singers of Ottawa and Vancouver’s Vivaldi Choir, as well as many church and community choirs. 

Pamela is survived by her siblings: Heather Holm (Steve Sepulchre), Martins Point, NS; Michael Holm (Dorcas Beaton), Toronto, and Carol Holm (Blake Rink), Calgary; nephew Malcolm Sepulchre; aunt Shirley Harbottle; uncle John Holm (Jocelyne); soul-sister Valérie Perrault and her sons Alexandre Perrault and Emmanuel Holm (Pamela’s godson); step-father Charles D. Maginley; step-siblings and cousins. She is lovingly remembered by friends, colleagues and clients across Canada.

Memorial Services will be held in Ottawa on Oct. 12, 2019, 4 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ottawa, 400 McArthur Ave; and in Mahone Bay on Oct. 26 [EDIT: postponed; TBA] in the Abriel Room of the Mahone Bay Centre.
